4 Ways To Drastically Improve Islamic Learning | Step 1 Goal Setting

When it comes to Islamic learning many people get it wrong, many seem to believe especially the younger generation, that part of the cycle of being a practising Muslim is to gather one’s documents together and apply for the Islamic University of Al Madinah bundled away for six to ten years. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim and the level to which a person will seek Islamic knowledge depends on what stage they find themselves on their Islamic journey.

The first thing I want you all to do over this summer is to set a target, how does one set a target? Ask yourself, what would I benefit from learning over the summer? For some it will be memorising a Juz’ (Chapter from the Qur’an), for others, it will be beginning their journey of speaking and understanding Arabic, for some, it will be learning the Fiqh of Salah or basic hadith terminology that will help them understand the science of hadeeth. Whatever it may be, I want you to read the following hadeeth which has within it the key ingredient to success:

The Messenger of Allah was reported to have said:

“Be diligent upon that which is beneficial for you, seek the help of Allah, and do not become despondent”

So step one for all of you is to identify what you think is good for you [as per the hadith] that you want to achieve. I want you all to write that down somewhere, your phone, a diary, whatever it may be. Let’s let it sink into the back of our minds. For us to do this, we need a target. When you have this goal in mind, it is important that it is given priority, it needs to be an achievable goal, we do not want to be setting goals that we can’t achieve or will not be giving any priority to.

In Sha Allah, I will be back tomorrow to finish the steps for how to achieve your goals in seeking knowledge.

See you then.
